History: The Salvation Army Addictions and Rehabilitation Program was started in 1991.

Residents Accepted: Male federal offenders 18 years of age and older.

Exclusions: The Centre is not wheelchair accessible.

Admission Procedure: The Centre Admissions Committee reviews all potential cases. Program Coordinator interviews potential clients at the Niagara Detention Centre and the Ontario Federal Institutions.

Admission Criteria: Candidates must:

1) Demonstrate a willingness to change and re-orient their lifestyle. 2) Have successfully completed a community assessment for our area.

Decisions for acceptance are based on our facility’s ability to manage the risk and to provide the appropriate program based upon the offender’s level of need.

Staff: The centre has 24-hour supervisory staff, which may include the Director, Program Coordinator/Counsellor, Addictions Counsellor, Cooks, Housekeeper, Janitor, Desk Clerks.

Program Objectives: The Centre provides qualified Counsellors, Certified Addictions Counsellors, psychosocial assessments, alcohol and drug assessments, case plans and referrals for all clients.

We provide group counselling including a mandatory weekly Program Night which deals with a variety of client need areas, such as; stress, anger, finances, time management, feelings, budgeting, employment, leisure, transitional issues, communication skills etc.

Furthermore, we provide In-house A.A. meetings, a parenting group, one to one counselling in all problem areas, case conferences, house meetings and regularly scheduled recreational activities.

The Centre is currently developing an Anger Management Training Course for Federal offenders.
