History:
The Salvation Army has operated Bunton Lodge at 422 Sherbourne St. as a correctional residence since 1978 under contract with the Provincial Government’s Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services. On the heels of changes to the Provincial Government’s funding for community correctional programs. Correctional Service of Canada established a relationship with The Salvation Army Bunton Lodge, offering the opportunity to continue to help offenders.

Bunton Lodge proudly bears the names of Lt. Colonel Wallace Bunton and his wife Maud, Salvationists and pioneers of The Salvation Army Correctional Services in Canada.

Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Bunton lived to do something for others and Bunton Lodge will continue to uphold that example and dedication by providing services that will assist clients in developing the skills required to live a productive and law abiding life.

Description:
The Salvation Army Bunton Lodge is a 3-story brick residence with lots of architectural appeal. There are seven large bedrooms, six are double rooms and the seventh contains three beds. There is a large living room, games room (pool table, shuffle board), and dining room. Laundry facilities and weight equipment are located in the basement. The residence is located on Sherbourne Street between Wellesley Street and Carlton in downtown Toronto. Public transportation, local services agencies, and the City Centre are all within walking distance.

Residents Accepted:
Adult males referred by the CSC, motivated to change and requiring community support.

Exclusions:
The Community Assessment Team considers each case on an individual basis.

Admission Procedure: Complete a Bunton Lodge application for residency form. Institutional visits/interviews are conducted at least every 8 weeks. A Community Assessment in conducted.

Staff:
Bunton Lodge has ten full time staff. Staff is on duty for residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Programs:
Bunton Lodge individualizes its program to provide the best possible assistance to its residents. Residents participate in the development of their program plan and goal setting. Each resident must agree to cooperatively work towards and achieve specific goals that will equip him with the necessary knowledge and skills that he requires. Any resident not prepared to follow through will be excluded from the program.

Various programs offered on site are A.A., Computer Training, health and Lifestyles, Employment programs, Chaplain’s Corner, Release Planning, A.A. The Centre also uses the resources available in the community support systems prior to release.
