History: Stonehenge Therapeutic Community is a
non-profit addiction agency providing long term residential care to men and
women with a history of chronic drug abuse. Established in 1971, Stonehenge
offers a model of care that focuses on lifestyle and healing. Treatment provides
opportunities to explore and challenge problems/behaviours in an atmosphere of
support.
Description: Located in a picturesque rural setting near Guelph, the
Stonehenge has separate facilities for men and women. A home like atmosphere
with a structured daily routine is designed to promote healthy choices and
positive responsible living.
Residents Accepted: Males and females 16 years and over with a)
chronic/severe substance abuse b) motivation to change and c) committed to 4-6
months of treatment. ** Federally sentenced clients must anticipate
spending the full six months in accordance with day parole requirements.
Exclusions: Those who pose a security risk or those who require on-site
complex medical attention.
Program: The 4-6 month treatment stay is designed to address the
cognitive/behavioural and emotional issues related to drug dependency. Residents
will move through 4 progressive phases of treatment with the option to
participate in continuing care for a period of two years. For those individuals
unsure or unable to enter treatment immediately, a weekly pre-treatment group is
available. Stonehenge also offers group support to family members who wish to be
involved. Both group and individual therapy is provided and is geared to
addressing the unique treatment plan of each resident. Specialized programming
is available for men and women with self & mutual help setting the tone for
all community activities. Residents (community members) are encouraged to
gradually take on increased responsibilities for the well being of the community
as a whole.
