History:
Simcoe County, Muskoka-Parry Sound District Recovery Homes was founded in 1972, and has maintained a contract with the CSC since 1977.

Description:
The residence at 7 South Street is a substantial brick home with seven double bedrooms, one single bedroom, a recreational room, a TV room, a fully serviced kitchen, a laundry room. As the home is on a double lot, the large grounds are sufficient for modest recreation. The home accommodates fifteen residents, and is within walking distance of transportation, the Y.M.C.A., the downtown area, and a beautiful lake and park. As well as 7 South Street we also own the house across the street which we refer to as our three-quarter-way house. We have five additional beds in this facility. When a resident has completed his intensive program he is eligible to move across the street to this facility.

Residents Accepted:
Only alcohol and drug addicted people.

Exclusions:
Some sexual offenders.

Admission Procedures:
Staff visit CSC institutions quarterly or as needed to conduct interviews with perspective residents and meet weekly with the local CSC (parole) office. The Orillia Community Assessment Team meets monthly to consider candidates for admission.

Staff:
The Recovery Home carries a staff compliment of nine (9) full-time employees, including a Director, House Manager, Office Manager, Cook, Nightman, and four (4) Counsellors. We also have part-time relief staff that ensure continuous twenty-four hour awake staff.

Program:
Service Objectives: To provide a stable, drug-free environment in a homelike, residential neighbourhood. To provide recovering substance abusers with a place where they can make a successful transition to a stable, sober, productive role in society. To help recovering substance abusers develop an understanding that abstinence is the only way they can get through their lives. To assist the alcoholic/cross addicted male to achieve permanent lifestyle changes, and help him in maintaining on-going recovery. To offer guidance in seeking spiritual progress, not perfection, in recovery.

Service Description:
The 7 South Street program is a high-intensity program in that it includes education on the disease concept of addiction, signs and symptoms of the disease, 12 steps of A.A., recovery and relapse prevention issues, and the need for abstinence, family dynamics, individual/group/family and spiritual counselling and attendance at A.A. or N.A.

The 7 South Street program consists of the following components:

· One-on-one counselling with an addictions counsellor

· Group therapy with addiction counsellors, access to a professional group therapist and a psychiatrist for enhancement in socialization, interaction skills, life skills and family violence counselling

· Anger management program and anger management one-on-one counselling, Intensive therapy

· Part of the program consists of a five week in-depth drug/alcohol rehabilitation program at the Georgianwood Addiction Centre, or a fully twenty eight day program at St. Joseph’s Treatment Centre in North Bay

· A.A. information meetings

· Vocational Rehabilitation counselling

· Recreation

· Urinalysis testing

· Aftercare Relapse Prevention meeting for our residents as well as others who have graduated from local programs
